On Friday, the FAA issued a warning to all airlines operating in Venezuela and the southern Caribbean. The official statement urged all carriers to “extremar la precaución” or “exercise extreme caution” due to military activity and a “potentially dangerous situation in the region”. Authorities highlighted increased risks over Venezuela’s airspace, particularly in the Maiquetía flight information region. Which controls both the local and surrounding Caribbean air space.

All the airlines flying to Venezuela have been instructed to either cancel the flights or at least change their plans concerning the flights. The FAA was very firm that the hazards could affect every stage of flight: the overfly, the arrival, the departure, and even the aircraft at the terminal. The alerts were issued just after the U.S. had conducted a massive military buildup near Venezuela. Which was said to be aimed at applying pressure on the Nicolas Maduro government through force.

Airlines from every part of the globe are now cancelling flights to Venezuela as a precautionary measure. The safety and security of passengers and cabin staff is forever the utmost concern. Iberia has clearly stated that it will keep on watching the developments before taking any flight resumption decisions. The airline’s policy is parallel to that of other carriers encountering similar difficulties.

The flight ban to Venezuela symbolizes a major change in the regional aviation industry. Safety alerts and military tensions have led the airlines, including Iberia, to stop their travel to Venezuela. The situation is such that military movements together with the poor state of security make it hard for airlines to assure passengers safe. Thus, Iberia and other airlines have decided to halt operations in Venezuela until the situation changes.

Iberia will continue to monitor the local situation and act accordingly. The airline wants to make sure traveling to Venezuela becomes safe again. Until then, cancel flights to Venezuela will remain the strategy for Iberia and other international carriers. This move is in line with their commitment to passenger protection and compliance with international security updates.

Finally

The withdrawal from Venezuela is a very important event in the aviation industry of the region. Safety warnings and military tensions have led Iberia and other airlines to stop their travel to Venezuela. The airlines will be assessing the risks continuously as the situation unfolds and might alter their operations. At this point, the emphasis is on passenger safety and compliance with international standards; thus, airlines are prepared to cancel flights to Venezuela at the slightest hint of danger.
